We are currently seeking a Battery Modeling Engineer. This position requires a creative and analytical mindset with working or research experience in modeling lithium-ion batteries. A successful candidate should be a quick learner and also detailed oriented. Candidates with additional skill sets are encouraged to apply. This position will be expected to possess the ability to strive for perfection within a fast-paced environment.

The Role:

  • Develop mathematical models of lithium ion batteries under extreme operating conditions based on electrochemistry knowledge and test data
  • Provide novel battery management system control solutions to optimize dischargeable capacity, cycle life, and charge time
  • Work on battery estimation algorithms regarding SOC, SOH, impedance, and performance limitation under given operating conditions
  • Work with cross-functional teams to develop, implement, test, and maintain your model
  • Design test plans to quantify model performance and limitation
  • Review academic papers and provide insight summary for team members
  • Develop software code and environment to prototype models and algorithms
  • Enhance the battery electrochemical and equivalent circuit model to simulate observed phenomena
  • Develop advanced deep learning models and tools for data analysis and visualization
  • Deliver documents related to model and algorithm development
  • Work with intellectual property team to patent your inventions

Qualifications:

  • A critical and independent mindset
  • Able to discover insights based on experiment data
  • Basic understanding of li-ion battery electrochemistry
  • Knowledge of battery operating characteristics at cell and system level
  • Experienced in creating mathematical models for physical and chemical systems
  • Able to design test plans to characterize battery and control algorithmperformance
  • Related academic publications in peer reviewed journals

Preferred:

  • Good mathematical knowledge and experience in machine learning and deep learning tools
  • Skilled in developing software tools in Python
  • Experienced in using COMSOL for battery simulation
  • Knowledge in digital signal processing
  • Knowledge in embedded systems
  • Experience with dynamic estimation techniques such as Kalman filter, Particle filter, etc.
  • Candidates with successful multidisciplinary work record or education background is desired

Education:

  • MS degree in EE, ME, CS, Math, Physics, Chemistry, Materials
