The Commercial Analyst, Program manager will be the primary interface between engineering/program management and other teams involved in cost modeling (Marketing, Purchasing, Freight/Logistics, Manufacturing, etc.)

The Role:

  • Provide context and cost information as these teams incorporate engineering data into their work streams
  • Support the development of physicals-based cost estimates for labor, equipment, warranty, freight, etc.
  • Work with Marketing/Product Planning to define trim series, option packages, and their associated take rates; cascade that information into the all-parts BoM
  • Translate engineering information into financial impact
  • Apply understanding of BoM structure/end-items to transforming a commodity-based cost model to a bill-of-material-based model
  • Assist engineering in assigning costs to BoM end-items
  • Quantify and contextualize the costs of engineering design changes in the change control process
  • Support Program Management Budgeting Process


  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Engineering or related field
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), preferred
  • Experience with program management or support of the program management office; PMI certification a bonus
  • Experience developing, modeling and evaluating program cost data (material, labor, equipment, facilities, etc.) for program management and reporting needs
  • Advanced financial modeling skills and experience required
  • At least 5 years’ relevant experience in program/product cost model development/use
  • Established ability using Microsoft Office with a particular high proficiency with Excel
  • Experience working in a product development, manufacturing or delivery industry with complex bill of materials
  • Proven technical, quantitative and critical-thinking skills, high level of independent judgment, initiative and creativity to identify and clearly communicate key performance drivers to senior management
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments with a high degree of autonomy and accountability for results
  • Demonstrated effective written, interpersonal and oral communication skills
  • Finance analyst/modeling experience at an Automotive OEM or Tier 1 Supplier – a huge plus!
