WE are looking for an automotive CAD Engineer - Body Structures & Closures . If you’re the kind of person who sees a problem, develops a solution, and engineers an improvement no one’s asked for yet, then we want to talk with you!
Our ideal candidate exhibits a can-do attitude and approaches his or her work with vigor and determination. Candidates should have demonstrated the ability to learn quickly and work effectively in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment and be excellent at multi-tasking.

The Role:

  • Design and engineer structural components and assemblies within the body and closures group, such as sheet metal parts and castings
  • Create purest structural parts and assemblies from clean sheet of paper and carry them through prototype, testing, PPAP, and start of production
  • Envision designs that speak the load case
  • Drive to perfection and own body and closures internal development targets in structure, cost, and weight while balancing simultaneous engineering aspects such as design for manufacturability, assembly, joining, dimensional engineering
  • Carry your part in packaging and studio engineering
  • Own, drive, and confirm your designs’ performance with help from CAE, manufacturing, and other groups in dynamic, fast paced hardware engineering department

Qualifications:

  • Profound knowledge of body or closures system and demonstrable track record of technical excellence and understanding of structure and why things don’t fall down
  • Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals such as strength & stiffness of materials, statics & dynamics, physics, lightweight design principles, buckling theory, structural section properties
  • Experience in and passion for shaping structural designs at the edge of their process limitations, integrating interfaces, considering bodyshop requirements and joining
  • A minimum of (5) years relevant design & engineering experience in any of the following areas: underbody, upper body, automotive closures
  • A strong desire to create the very best product, working as an integral part of a very capable team
  • Creativity within complex 3D virtual package environment
  • The ability to create complex CAD models in CATIA V6 quickly and efficiently while holding CAD part, tree, links & publications to an excellent standard
  • Utilize CAD methodologies, study files, slab models, knowledge based engineering
  • A solid knowledge of aluminum, steel, and other common structural materials
  • A solid knowledge of common structural part manufacturing processes such as stamping, extrusion, casting
  • A good understanding of the range of computational tools available to design engineers
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T and how it applies to part, assembly, and customer requirements for gap and flush
  • Well-developed team working and interpersonal skills
  • A great work ethic
  • Launch experience

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science (minimum) in Mechanical Engineering or relevant engineering discipline or higher
