Our Quality team enables the industrialization of innovative products in an extremely aggressive timeline. In this highly visible role, the Corporate Quality Director recruits, manages and mentors a team of Quality Managers and Engineers responsible for assuring the highest quality standards for our products He or she is the key internal interface with Engineering, Manufacturing and our suppliers to develop ways to manufacture challenging designs while at the same time not sacrificing requirements for quality and reporting directly to the CEO.

You must be able to guide up front design development as well as create new manufacturing methods and control strategies to achieve ambitious specifications and ensure a flawless execution during launch and into full production.

Candidates must have strong experience building teams and internal processes, be able to direct all  activities at the Director level and have the capacity to contribute consistently and positively in a high-paced, fast-changing and sometimes unpredictable environment.

The Role

  • Serve overall approval authority of all Corporate Quality Processes, TQM, ISO.
  • Lead Regulatory Compliance, TREAD Act., Field Performance Monitoring.
  • Lead Corporate Traceability Data tracking and control.
  • Oversee Pre-Production Quality Validation at each launch phase.
  • Facilitate DFMEA/PFMEA
  • Define the Single Agenda for Quality priorities based on Customer field data.
  • Provide leadership for the introduction of engineering methods to ensure Quality is designed and built into the vehicle, and not inspected.
  • Implement the Quality Assurance Process through Launch and sustained production.
  • Implement Launch data collection, categorizing for each major subsystem with a closes loop process.
  • Launch the corporate Quality Confirmation Process.
  • Ultimately accountable for all Quality practices.
  • Build and lead a world-class Quality team. Establish and manage priorities and project assignments for team members and provide mentoring to create a cohesive team.
  • Develops and reports State of Quality on a regular basis through the reporting of various Key Performance Indicators.
  • Create and implement departmental processes such as control plans and site audits from scratch to build world class Corporate Quality.
  • Total ownership of Quality through the entire life cycle, from initial sourcing through development, tooling and industrialization phases as well as product launch and ongoing business management.
  • Guide Engineering development to ensure manufacturing needs are considered in the design phase and that proper quality expectations are defined. Help select appropriate suppliers with the right qualifications to meet Lucid’s expectations and timeline.
  • Recommends or approves, compliant policies, rules or labor agreements, personnel actions relating to employment, wage rates, advancement, discipline, etc.
  • Work with all parties to create new manufacturing techniques when necessary to meet design and quality requirements.
  • Develop process improvement plans and drive implementation. Monitor and maintain performance metrics.
  • Develop, manage and improve the APQP (advanced produce quality planning) process with suppliers from initial design stage through PPAP submission and start of mass production.
  • Develop quality plans, design test methods and gages, identify potential failure modes and process weaknesses and drive corrective actions.
  • Travel 25% on average, occasionally on short notice.
  • Lead a diverse team that is focused on developing and maintaining Lucid Motor’s Quality program.
  • Establish performance metrics, policies, and procedures in administering quality confirmation.
  • Work with Engineering, Plant Operations, Procurement and other Lucid Quality functions.
  • Mentor and develop direct staff and provide consistent, actionable feedback.
  • Driver in implementation of new internal programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Develop and implement continuous improvement projects.
  • Ensure compliance with customer requirements, regulatory agency, government regulations, contract specifications, and company policies/procedures.
  • Development/management of inspection processes & tools.
  • Effectively manages both short term and long-term projects and sets the direction for any Quality related IT systems.
  • Participates heavily in numerous formalized Continuous Improvement / Lean Manufacturing initiatives

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience in a high volume manufacturing business with automotive exposure and at least 5 years of experience in a significant corporate role.
  • Exhibit Team development and demonstrated leadership in Quality organizations.
  • Strong written and verbal skills as well as organizational and program management capabilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics and drawings and an in-depth knowledge of automotive quality standards and specifications.
  • Excellent analytical abilities, technical writing ability and comprehensive understanding of quality toolbox (SPC, 8D root cause analysis, tolerancing, control and inspection standards, etc.).
  • Certification preferred – American Society for Quality, Black Belt, Six Sigma, etc.
  • Open-minded self-starter with the ability to adapt, improvise and problem solve, as well manage multiple tasks and projects and concisely explain complex issues supported with data. Team player with strong interpersonal skills.
  • BS in Engineering, MS preferred
  • MBA a plus
